AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Police Department reported that on Sunday morning, police were called to a home in the 1700 block of S. Highland on a disturbance.
APD said officers heard a person screaming in distress and entered the home.
APD then reported that a man fired shots at the officers and the police officers returned fire.
The police report stated, the man fled the home to a shed in the backyard and barricaded himself.
According to the report, police negotiators and SWAT were on the scene and attempted to make contact with the subject. The Amarillo Critical Incident Response Team also responded.
The report also stated several streets were blocked by police for the safety of the community. Neighbors were asked to stay inside their homes if they lived in the immediate area.
