2 arrested, 160 roosters’ seized after cockfighting bust on Saturday

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with the Potter County Sherriff’s Office released information regarding two arrests after a cockfighting bust at a property in the Byrd Addition.

According to the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 10, a resident notified deputies that two male subjects were arguing at a property in the 500 Block of LaRuth and also said, “They thought there was roosters fighting.”

Officials detailed that on arrival deputies saw about 50 people watching a rooster fight in a pen.

The sheriff’s office said Ivan Guadelupe Herrera-Lopez, 43, was identified as the person responsible, he was arrested and transported to the Potter County Detention Center. Officials said that Juana Sanchez Gonzalez, 41, was arrested for “Possession of a Controlled Substance.”

The release added that during a search of the residence, narcotics were found, along with 160 fighting roosters who were given to the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Officials added that “Many of the individuals interviewed were unlawfully in the United States, ICE was notified and took custody of these individuals.”
