Winter Storm Winding Down

The potent winter storm that we tracked across our area is quickly winding down and departing our area tonight. The storm left behind several inches of snow for much of our area, including a swath of 6″-10″ amounts across our southern counties. Amarillo received 5.^” officially which is a new record for this date. Although the actual snowfall is wrapping up, lingering moisture or roads and other surfaces will refreeze overnight as temps fall into the low 20s. This will create slick conditions on some roadways until sunshine and warmer temps allow for a thaw by mid morning tomorrow. By afternoon, highs will be in the upper 40s and even 50s on areas without as much snow. A nice warming trend will dominate the work week with 60s by Wednesday and even 70 degree highs by Thursday. Our next strong cold front is scheduled for Saturday with a quick surge of Arctic air, but snow is not expected at this time.
