AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — ADVO Companies has been around for 33 years and takes care of adults with intellectual disabilities. ADVO is a nonprofit organization that operates a pre-vocational training center, an adult day habilitation center, and 28 group homes.
ADVO is working to expand the organization with the addition of Hope Village, which is expected to open towards the end of this year.
According to Jeremy Bradford, vice president for ADVO and the Hope to Opportunities Foundation, ADVO’s goal is to get individuals to the point where the community accepts them for who they are.
“The individuals we have here are amazing,” Bradford said. “They are always happy. They are always excited to see you.”
He said the workshop teaches individuals skills that they will be able to use in their future jobs.
“The ultimate goal is to get them in the workforce community and be seen as an equal,” he said. “Unfortunately everyone knows them in high school and elementary school, but when they graduate they fall through the cracks and that’s where ADVO comes in to pick them up out of those cracks and give them a meaningful life.”
