Amarillo Opera is hosting its second annual Black History Month celebration performance on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 1208 S Tyler St.
The performance will feature classical soprano Aundi Marie Moore performing “Sounds for the Soul,” including hymns from spirituals and traditional gospels; George Gershwin pieces from The Great American Songbook; musical theater pieces and more.
“This concert is going to be amazing; Aundi’s voice is beautiful. This is our outreach concert for all of Amarillo, so it’s free of charge. We just want everyone to have a good time. This is in celebration of Black History Month. Aundi will give the audience a little bit of everything with Broadway and spiritual and so much more. You will regret not hearing her voice,” said Mary Jane Johnson, general and artistic director for the Amarillo Opera.
Moore, originally from Chesapeake, Virginia, began singing classically at the age of 9 years old after her school teacher recognized her talent and being placed in voice lessons by her mother. Quickly Moore’s vocal coach recognized her potential and began teaching her how to sing classical opera.
