On the trail of East Texas’ buried treasure
Those who have spent time in the Lone Star State may have encountered “Big Tex” during the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, standing as an iconic mascot of both the event and the rest of the region. However, the 55-foot-tall statue is far from a lonesome cowboy, but rather has kin lofting high in the skies in other communities around the state.

The 2nd Amendment Cowboy – Amarillo
Also known as a “Muffler Man,” large fiberglass sculptures of caricatures and mascots used for roadside advertising, the 2nd Amendment Cowboy in Amarillo stands at around 22 feet tall on the side of I-40 and Hope Road. This cowboy has kept his quirky vigil in front of the Cadillac Ranch RV Park since around 2014, and comes from a fiberglass family restored and distributed by late Texas artist and businessman Glenn Goode.
