Alzheimer’s Associations set to host ‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ on Aug. 2

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with the Alzheimer’s Association invites the community to kick off the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” on Aug. 2. The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pure Heals Adult Medical Complex.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments that change the course of the disease,” said Brooke Harlan, Event Chair. “We hope that everyone in our community can join us by kickstarting our fundraising season. Grab your purple and start a team to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments and finally end this disease.”

Officials said activities at the walk include music, charcuterie, cocktails, prizes, and team registrations.

The release from the AA stated, that Alzheimer’s is amongst the leading cause of death in the United States and more than 11 million people provide care for Alzheimer’s patients. Officials detailed that in Potter County, the prevalence rate is about 12% amongst residents 65 years old and older.
