TxDOT: Adkisson Road bridge replacement project on I-40 to begin Monday

Those traveling on Interstate 40 in the Amarillo area can expect more closures next week as another bridge project begins.

Starting Monday, Oct. 7, Gilvin-Terrill, Ltd. will begin replacing the Adkisson Road bridge on I-40, just west of Bushland, the Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo office announced Thursday.

TxDOT said the bridge is nearing the end of its service life, and it is in need of upgrades.

The $9.7 million project is expected to be completed in fall 2025, according to TxDOT, and the bridge’s upgrades include increased vertical clearance for the I-40 freight corridor.

“The traveling public can anticipate the following lane and ramp closures near Adkisson Road” during the construction project: I-40 westbound frontage road, I-40 westbound, I-40 eastbound frontage road and I-40 eastbound.

“These closures will happen intermittently throughout the project depending on the work that is being performed at that time,” TxDOT said.

TxDOT urges motorists to drive with caution and reduce their speed through all work zones. All construction projects are subject to change due to weather, emergency work and other unexpected events. The most up-to-date road conditions are available at www.drivetexas.org .
