DWC to celebrate 5 women at latest graduation ceremony Sunday

The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) will be celebrating five women as they graduate from DWC’s Recovery Program at a ceremony this weekend.

The center’s Recovery Program Graduation Ceremony is scheduled to take place 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Central Church of Christ Chapel, located at 1401 S. Monroe in Amarillo.

“We are celebrating five strong and brave women who are now living clean, sober and productive lives,” a news release states. “Please join us as we celebrate their graduation from the DWC Rcovery Program.”

DWC serves homeless women in recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions through its soon-to-be-four shelters: the Haven House, Abba House, Gratitude House and Haven House Too, which is for women new in recovery who are pregnant or have children with them, according to the release.

More than 250 women have successfully completed DWC’s Recovery Program since 2007, the first year that the organization held graduation ceremonies.

“Barnes Jewelry designed and made a special one-of-a-kind cross necklace for our graduates in 2007, and the necklaces are still given to each graduate today,” the organization said, noting that the business’s couple continue to provide these necklaces.
