Amarillo man dead after Sunday evening wreck

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Public Safety said one person is dead and one person has been arrested following a Sunday evening wreck north of Amarillo.

According to DPS, the wreck happened on 4350 North Side Drive, .02 miles north of Amarillo.

DPS officials noted that a 2004 Infinity G35 driven by 64-year-old Soukanh Mounivong from Amarillo was traveling northbound on North Side Drive at an unsafe speed. Officials stated that Mounivong failed to negotiate a curve, causing the Mounivong to lose control of the vehicle and travel off the roadway where it entered a side-skid and rolled over multiple times. The vehicle then struck a guardrail while rolling over before coming to a final rest upside down on the shoulder.

DPS officials stated that the passenger, 59-year-old Kiattisack Chanthavong of Amarillo was pronounced dead at the scene and Mounivong was placed under arrest for intoxication manslaughter and booked into the Potter County Jail.
