Amarillo League of Women Voters to host Educational Forum for voters Thursday

The Amarillo League of Women Voters is inviting the community to an Educational Forum on the Amarillo City Charter Amendments and the “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” Ordinance , also known as Propositions A through E on the ballot for the upcoming Nov. 5 election.

The forum will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 in the Virgil Patterson Auditorium at Happy State Bank, 701 S Taylor in Amarillo. Attendees should enter the building through the parking garage on Fillmore, according to a news release.

The panel for the City Charter Amendments, which are Propositions B-E, will be moderated by Dr. David Rausch, Teel Bivens Professor of Political Science at West Texas A&M University. Panelists will include Freda Powell, Dean Crump, and Kim Benson of the Citizens Committee for the 2024 Charter Review.

The panel for the “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” ordinance, or Proposition A on the ballot, will be moderated by Dr. Shanna Peeples, Asst. Professor of Education at West Texas A&M University. According to the release, panelists for this discussion will include those who can speak to the legal and medical aspects of the ordinance, including Attorney Ryan Brown; Dr. Richard McKay; Lindsey London, RN, representing the Amarillo Reproductive Freedom Alliance; and Christina Romero, a private citizen in support of the ordinance.
