AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Homeless Heroes is a nonprofit organization that is remodeling a historic hotel to end veteran homelessness in Amarillo.
Homeless Heroes of Amarillo has been working on Project Astro which will take the historic Astro Motel and make it a place to house veterans experiencing homelessness.
“It’ll give them a place to rest and know that they’re safe. It’ll give them camaraderie, having other people that have experienced that right alongside with them, their brothers, their sisters in the military right here, they’ll have resources brought to them,” said Homeless Heroes of Amarillo Founder Tiffaney Belflower.
Belflower added that she always wanted to do something with the old motel and one day she had a calling and decided to begin the Astro project.

“They serve our country. They sign their name on the dotted line. They’re gonna go do whatever they need to do to protect our country,” said Belflower. “The least we can do is make sure that they have a roof over their heads, a warm bed to sleep at night, food on their plate, hands surrounded by love and care.”
