City of Amarillo reorganizing city government structure

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — At Tuesday’s Amarillo city council meeting, the council passed a resolution to reorganize the city government’s organizational structure to enhance administrative efficiencies and promote governmental services.

Longtime city employee Floyd Hartman will be retiring in January 2026 and Amarillo City Manager Grayson Path said this gave them an opportunity as well as a need to get prepared for that and get a good succession plan going.

Path said he wants to take advantage of the lead time Hartman is giving them because there are large capital utility projects on the horizon.

Amarillo Area Foundation announces leadership transition

“The citizens are aware we have to rebuild the Hollywood Wastewater Treatment Plant, we also need to at some point expand the River Road Wastewater Treatment Plant. We are looking at lead copper rules, overhead storage, lots of things on the horizon. That’s just utilities. We also have, public works has a lot of projects, CP&D has projects, street projects, Transformation Park and community development, lots of things that are going on, so with this I felt it necessary to focus Mr. Hartman on utilities,” said Path.
