It seems like it’s been a long time since the City of Amarillo issued its first survey regarding the Safe Streets and Roads For All plan. Since then, numerous surveys and public meetings have been held to determine the City’s priorities regarding street safety. Now, we’ve got a laundry list of projects that will potentially be tackled very soon.
What Safe Streets and Roads For All Projects Will The City Take On
According to information released by the City of Amarillo, the Safe Streets and Roads for All Plan includes 16 projects. These range from safer school speeds to total reconstruction in some places.
Here is the list of projects that the City is looking at:
- Safe speeds for schools
- Phase 1 intersection improvements
- Phase 2 intersection improvements
- Non-TxDOT signal improvements
- Farmers Ave shared use path
- Eastridge safe routes to school
- Fannin and South Lawn safe routes to school
- Georgia Street access management
- Woodlands Elementary safe routes to school
- Amarillo High School safe routes to school
- NE 24th pavement and sidewalk improvement

How Long Will These Projects Take?
The projects are split into three categories; short-term, medium-term, and long-term. No exact timelines have been given yet, but some of these projects look like they could take a while. While I’m excited about safe streets and roads, I’m not excited about the work before we get there.
You know what I mean…
