The Amarillo Police Department has released new details in the downtown shooting Sunday that killed 25-year old John Love Louima and injured eight others. The shooting took place at Chesney’s Whiskey Saloon, located at 715 South Polk where 23-year old Robert Kenney Knox was reported to have fired into a crowd of people with a rifle before getting into a car and taking off. That car was found a short time later and its three occupants were taken into custody. The firearm used in the shooting was an AR style platform – a kind of pistol – with a magazine capacity of 28 rounds. 15 rounds were fired at the crowd outside the club. Investigators determined there was some type of altercation earlier in the club; flirting that caused some anger. APD Chief Martin Birkenfeld hinted that Chesney’s Whiskey Bar had an event two years ago for which his office filed a protest for renewal of the bar’s alcohol permit with the TABC and yet to hear back.
