Local teacher brings Valentine’s Day project, ‘Hearts Around the World’

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, and 2nd-grade teacher Kelly Brakebill at Reeves-Hinger Elementary is getting her children into the spirit with the “Hearts Around the World,” Valentine’s Day project.

The project asked for people around the world to send Valentine’s Day letters to Mrs. Brakebill’s 2nd-grade class.

“I did not expect it to be this amazing. The kids have really been into it, and we’ve gotten some really, really cool letters, some from people we know, and some from complete strangers. And not only have we just gotten letters or postcards, but we’ve also gotten packages,” said Brakebill. “We’ve gotten really cool stuffed animals, books for all around the world, and it’s been amazing. And it’s not just been 50 states, we’ve even had some international as well.”

Brakebill added that while the students are able to read the letters they are also able to learn about countries they may have never heard of before…
