Northside High School families say they are looking for answers after some students were punished after participating in a student-run walkout protesting the nationwide immigration crackdown Friday.
Parents, suspended students and community activists, including Los Brown Berets de Houston, held a protest Monday to demand that suspensions and alleged expulsions for the students who walked out of class be dropped. Houston ISD said no students were expelled and that a group of students was suspended after some disrupted class, forcing the school into secure mode.
“We have a right to protest,” suspended student Reina Serna-Garcia said. “If they should suspend anybody, I think they should be suspending the kids who were being disruptive.”…
