Florida Among 7 States Urged Not to Eat Oysters Amidst Recall For ‘Highly Contagious’ Virus Concerns

Floridian seafoodies may want to reconsider their next beachside restaurant visit. In a February 7, 2025 announcement from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the Louisiana Department of Health has issued a recall for oysters harvested from Louisiana Area 3 between January 10 and February 4, 2025, amid concerns of contamination with a highly contagious virus. The affected oysters were primarily shipped to restaurants, retailers, and distributors in 7 states, including Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Texas, though they may have been distributed to other states through 3rd-party distribution sales as well.
