Storm arrives with some rain, snow, & wind

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Snow with chilly rain activity to the north is slowly moving southward with bitterly cold air as low as the nearly the upper single digits with freezing mist in Northeast New Mexico, but in western areas of the East Highlands to the west, westerly winds are sinking down the east-sloped mountains faces, the Rio Grande Valley, and South New Mexico, allowing for most to be starting off above the freezing mark to as mild as in the low 60s farther to the south.

Few chilly rain showers with higher-elevation snow showers to the north from the West Mountains through most areas north of I-40 will become more widespread with the clashing of air masses later this morning throughout the early afternoon while drifting southeastward, but most areas west to south of the Central Mountains will continue to be mild with dry air, as well as windier, elevating the higher fire threat as dust may blow in the wind with some patchy blowing snow in the mountains. Most areas to the southwest will range from the 50s to the 70s this afternoon, while areas to the east will be in the 40s or even below freezing.

Record cold for some out east with patchy freezing mist is expected tomorrow morning with lower temperatures to start for nearly all, but then rebounding temperatures will then mostly return later this week with very breezy conditions from time to time with precipitation either in far-northern areas or remaining to the north ahead…
