The Amarillo Fire Marshal’s Office is urging property owners to secure vacant houses and commercial buildings.. In recent weeks, AFD has responded to multiple fires in vacant structures, many of which were unlawfully entered. These fires not only put lives at risk but also endanger neighboring properties and first responders. Under the 2021 International Fire Code Section 311, property owners are required to properly secure vacant structures against unauthorized entry to reduce fire hazards and other safety concerns.
