Former NM high school coach named to national hall of fame

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Frank Dooley left his mark on New Mexico high school athletics for decades. He coached for over 40 years in six different schools and four different sports. Dooley is now being recognized for his work, as he has been named to the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

A graduate of Deming High School, Dooley began his coaching career at his alma mater. Most known for his time with the basketball program, Dooley coached the Wildcats from 1963-1979. He led the team to a four state championships, ten district titles and a 72% win rate. The court in Deming was named after him in 2010.

Dooley’s career also took him to Silver, Alamogordo, Mayfield, Cibola and St. Pius. In addition to basketball, Dooley also coached Tennis, Football and Wrestling. In the classroom, he was a math teacher…
