New Mexico Snow Squall Warning: Hazardous Travel Conditions Near Gallup

Gallup, NM – A fast-moving snow squall is creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of western New Mexico early Friday morning, with intense snowfall and strong winds reducing visibility to near zero.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Snow Squall Warning is in effect for Catron, Cibola, and McKinley counties until 3:30 AM MDT. The squall, moving east at 25 mph, is producing heavy bursts of snow and wind gusts exceeding 35 mph.

The impacted areas include Gallup, Zuni Pueblo, Thoreau, Ramah, Pine Hill, Black Rock, El Morro, Vanderwagen, Fence Lake, and McGaffey. Dangerous whiteout conditions are expected, especially along Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 1 and 64 and Highway 60 between Mile Markers 0 and 45
