1 man dead after failing to stop at intersection

RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that one man has died after a wreck in Randall County after failing to stop at an intersection due to a missing stop sign that blew away during the previous day’s high winds.

According to DPS officials, on Saturday, a 2018 GMC Sierra driven by 57-year-old John Lucero of Amarillo was traveling southbound on FM 168 and approaching the intersection with FM 1062. A 2019 Ford F250 towing a trailer driven by a 37-year-old man from Silverton was traveling westbound on FM 1062 and approaching the intersection with FM 168.

Due to the previous day’s high winds, DPS officials stated that Lucero did not stop at the intersection due to the missing stop sign. The driver of the Ford also failed to stop at the stop sign on FM 1062 and struck Lucero on the driver’s side causing the Ford’s trailer to become detached and roll over into the ditch through a barbed-wire fence.
