East Texas firefighters help battle Panhandle wildfire that burned over 23,000 acres

LONGVIEW, Texas — A team of Longview firefighters assisted with a Panhandle wildfire that burned over 23,000 acres.

On March 11, the Longview Fire Department made a crew swap with a team that was already in Lubbock for 14 days. The new crew was sent to Amarillo, and they were sent to the Windmill fire for two days near Perryton. That blaze burned over 23,000 acres.

This team is prepositioned in Plainview for an initial attack while the area is under “extremely critical fire conditions.” The group will likely be there for 14 days, the Longview Fire Department said…
