AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Water is the lifeline of the Texas Panhandle, but experts warn it’s running low.
“We have a program at the district where we measure the Ogallala Aquifer, the Dockum, and the Blaine Aquifers every winter. We do that in the winter when the demand for irrigation is less, and generally, the trend that we see in the Ogallala is a foot of decline every year,” said Britney Britten, general manager for Panhandle Groundwater Conservation District.
