First measles case confirmed in Amarillo area; Canyon ISD staff member affected

The first confirmed case of measles in Potter and Randall counties in the current outbreak was reported Friday by the City of Amarillo Public Health Department and Canyon Independent School District.

Canyon ISD said a staff member has tested postive for the highly contagious disease and has not been on the school campus for about a week.

“Canyon ISD, in collaboration with the City of Amarillo Public Health Department, is notifying the community that a staff member at Canyon Intermediate School has been diagnosed with measles,” the school district said in a statement. “The last time the employee was on campus was Wednesday, March 26.”…
