The Giant Legs in Amarillo, Texas Just Got a Fresh New Look

One of the strange things in Amarillo, Texas is the giant legs off I-27. If you aren’t familiar with this art installation, it looks like the body has been broken off a statue and all that is left are just a broken set of legs.

What are the Ozymandias on the Plains?

The Ozymandias is an art installation created by Lightin’ McDuff, a Panhandle artist, in 1996. This project was originally set to be an entire giant, but the artist decided to go with just the legs. Now, the legs puzzle people from all over the world.

If you have driven by the legs recently, you might have noticed a drastic change. The legs are now wearing black socks with pink stripes. This change isn’t just because someone jumped the fence and decided to give the giant socks. It might have something to do with the Randall High Lady Raiders Soccer team finally heading to state for the first time in the school’s history and the Texas Panhandle’s history for a soccer team boys or girls to qualify for state.

The Lady Raiders Soccer team competed at the state championship against Wimberly on Thursday, April 10 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown. The Lady Raider Soccer team is the State Champs for 2025!

Is the Ozymandias Supposed to be Spray Painted?

Over the years, the Ozymandias have gone the way of Cadillac Ranch where people spray paint the art piece adding their style to the giant legs, every now and then it will get an upgrade, like soccer socks. It’s only a matter of time before this is covered up with different colors and tags.
