Steady rain brings relief to the Panhandles

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Days of steady rainfall have brought much-needed moisture to the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, with some areas receiving more than three inches of precipitation.

Steve Hanna, Lead Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Amarillo, said the rain event was spread over several days, which helped minimize the risk of flash flooding.

“We had a kind of longer-duration rain event for the past couple of days that produced, roughly speaking, about one to two inches broadly across the Panhandle,” Hanna said. “Closer to the Amarillo area and the southwest portions of the Texas Panhandle, we got about two to three inches. So for Amarillo, we got the most rain.”

Palo Duro Canyon recorded between 2.83 and 2.86 inches of rain. At the same time, areas along the Canadian River received slightly less, with totals ranging from about 2.25 inches on the north side to nearly 2.75 inches on the south side…
