Wildcat Bluff Nature Center opens Mariposa Trail

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT)— Wildcat Bluff Nature Center hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration on Saturday, expanding outdoor access and educational opportunities in the Texas Panhandle.

The new Mariposa Trail is located on 125 newly donated acres of land. It was made possible through a combination of community support, volunteer efforts, and nonprofit funding.

“A few months back, we received a very generous donation from Mariposa Eco-Village, which is our neighbors to the south and they donated about 125 acres and we’ve been working since that time, very diligently to open up these new trails for the city and the region,” said Wendy Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of the Discovery Center.

The new area is not just for hiking, it also helps bridge a gap between people and the land they live on. According to environmental educator Will Masters, the property is rich in native wildlife, including mule deer, horned lizards, tarantulas and rattlesnakes…
