Amarillo Sod Poodles fall in series finale against Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Sod Poodles were limited to just one run Sunday afternoon, falling 6-1 to the Springfield Cardinals in the series finale at Hammons Field.

A two-run homer by Springfield’s JJ Wetherholt in the first inning set the tone. The Cardinals added runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh, while Amarillo’s lone score came from a solo shot by Ivan Melendez in the fifth, his fifth home run of the season.

The Soddie’s starter Spencer Giesting (1-1) took his first loss of the year, allowing three earned runs over five innings while striking out three. He still leads the Texas League with 44.2 innings pitched this season…
