AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — We first introduced you to Javier Meza about a year and a half ago when he was competing in the Olympic trials.
Meza is a professional boxer and Amarillo native who lost in the early rounds of the Olympic trials at the end of 2023. Although the Olympic trials didn’t go the way he wanted, he told us he’s using that adversity as a life lesson.“That helped me a lot, just being patient,” said Meza, who has a 2-0 professional record. “It’s always God’s timing, and it’s true. I mean, I wanted to turn pro when I was 18, and, you know, that didn’t happen, but my dream’s been to be world champion since I was little.”Those dreams are closer to reality for Meza now, after signing his first professional contract with Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

“A dream come true. I mean, I remember just looking up to him, seeing all those fighters signed to him, and now getting the opportunity to sign with him and fight on bigger cards,” Meza recalled.De la Hoya is regarded as one of the best pro boxers of all time, and his accolades include winning 11 world titles in six weight classes.
