Texas gas price average dips slightly ahead of Memorial Day weekend travel

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The statewide gas price average in Texas was reported as $2.79/gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That was noted as the lowest Memorial Day weekend gas price average since 2021, which is welcome news for holiday travelers.

AAA Texas said $2.79/gallon was 5 cents more than the same day last week and 39 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.

What stores, restaurants are open for Memorial Day 2025?

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, AAA Texas said drivers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area were paying the most on average at $2.95/gallon while drivers in the Waco area were paying the least at $2.60/gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.19/gallon, the same price as compared to last week and 42 cents less when compared to last year.

In Amarillo, drivers were paying an average of $2.67/gallon on Thursday, 1 cent less than last week and 33 cents lower than one year ago…
