Storm chances increase Memorial Day evening

AMARILLO (KVII) — Storms will be weaker on Monday but will still be strong enough to get to severe levels. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the High Plains in a MARGINAL to SLIGHT RISK for severe weather Monday evening.

In theory, wind, hail and heavy rain are the primary hazards that can be expected this evening, but a tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms are expected to be scattered to numerous in coverage. Showers and T-Storms will dissipate overnight and we will have a quieter day on Tuesday.

Tuesday will feature a lot of low clouds early on before clouds clear in the afternoon. Highs Tuesday will return to the middle 70s and isolated T-Storms will be possible in the late afternoon and evening.

The next sizable shot for rain after Monday will be Wednesday evening as a stronger disturbance aloft passes through with some northwest flow. Storms will likely reach severe limits which is why the Storm Prediction Center has a MARGINAL to SLIGHT RISK in place for the region.

Temperatures will climb into the lower 80s and there will be sufficient moisture in place for storms to develop. Wind and rain look to be the main hazards on Wednesday. Storms could take on a large complex shape on Wednesday bringing more widespread wind and rain to the area in the evening…
