AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the entire Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, remaining in effect until 9 p.m. CDT Monday, June 2.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, the primary threats with the strongest storms include damaging straight-line winds of up to 80 mph and hail up to golf ball size. These hazards could lead to property damage, downed trees, and power outages.
An Enhanced Risk — level 3 out of 5 on the SPC’s scale — has been outlined for the northeastern half of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, where conditions are especially favorable for widespread severe storm development.
Storms have already begun developing across parts of New Mexico and the far western Texas panhandle and are expected to increase in coverage and intensity through the evening hours. The storm activity is forecast to move from southwest to northeast, affecting communities such as Amarillo, Pampa, Guymon and Borger through late tonight. Storms could linger in some areas until around midnight.
