Panhandle People’s Pantry launches free summer program for kids in North Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A new summer initiative aims to provide North Amarillo youth with free breakfast and encourage morning activities at the Black Historical Cultural Center (BHCC).

The Panhandle People’s Pantry (P3) is launching the BHCC Kids Summer Program, which will run weekdays from June 16 through Aug. 13, from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. The program is open to children ages 5 to 17 and combines literacy, art, physical activity, and community building.

Amarillo releases service schedule for Juneteenth

Officials said participants will engage in story time, cooperative games, and art projects inspired by Black history and neighborhood pride. A healthy breakfast will be provided each morning through the Kids’ Café program. Activities will be supported by local volunteers and mentors.

“We’re excited to start the program and get more things going for kids and parents in North Heights,” said Joe West, a representative of P3. “We’re a fresh Amarillo group, but we look forward to partnering with more local organizations and having more opportunities to feed and enrich our neighbors.”…
