New equipment boosts search for missing Marine veteran

ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — It’s been nearly five months since Gary Joseph “PJ” Marcantel Jr. disappeared on Highway 207 in the canyon in Armstrong County.

State funding is enabling the Armstrong County sheriff’s office to purchase equipment that will enable them to expand their search efforts and go to places they haven’t been able to in the past.

“So, you really don’t understand the terrain or can’t wrap your head around the terrain until you get there,” said Melissa Anderson, Armstrong County Sheriff. “It’s the second largest canyon in the nation, so you’re looking at treacherous areas, drop offs places that you can’t go to on foot. Thankfully, Senate Bill 22 allowed the Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office to get a UTV.”…
