Amarillo community gathers for annual John Michael Morrison Memorial 5K run

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Runners, families, and volunteers came together Saturday morning for the annual John Michael Morrison Memorial 5K, honoring a former Randall High School student whose legacy continues to impact local student-athletes.

The event remembers John Michael Morrison, a 17-year-old junior and cross-country runner who died in an accident in 2019. His family launched the run to celebrate his life and raise scholarship funds for other high school runners.

Community steps up to the plate at Home Run Derby to support children

Now in its fifth year, the 5K has raised more than $135,000 through the John Michael Morrison Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Organizers said they were grateful for the strong community turnout and plan to continue the tradition next summer…
