Tyson workers authorize strike at Texas plant over CEO pay, labor practices

AMARILLO, Texas — A Teamsters chapter representing thousands of workers at a Tyson plant in Texas said Friday that a strike has been authorized over the company’s labor practices and the CEO’s pay.

The Teamsters is a large labor union that represents workers throughout the U.S. The group said in a release on June 27 that the Teamsters Local 577 chapter, representing employees at the Tyson plant in Amarillo, had overwhelmingly approved a strike.

“Local 577 members at Tyson Foods of Amarillo, the largest beef processing plant in the United States, have voted by a 98 percent margin to authorize a strike,” the union said. “The Teamsters represent 3,100 workers in slaughtering and processing at the facility who are demanding higher wages and improved benefits.”…
