AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Gas prices in Amarillo fell by 4.9 cents per gallon in the last week to reach an average of $2.71/gallon on Monday, according to the latest report from GasBuddy. Those prices were noted as 8.9 cents higher than a month ago and 23.5 cents lower than one year ago.
GasBuddy reported the cheapest station in Amarillo on Sunday was priced at $2.49/gallon while the most expensive was $3.49/gallon, a difference of $1. The lowest price in Texas on Sunday was $2.35/gallon while the most expensive was $3.99/gallon, a difference of $1.64.

Nationally, the average price of gas has fallen 3.8 cents from last week, averaging $3.14/gallon on Monday. That national average was noted as up 1.1 cents from a month ago and stands 32.1 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel increased by 2.7 cents in the last week to reach an average of $3.67/gallon.
Gas prices in areas neighboring Amarillo included:
- Lubbock- $2.58/gallon, down 6.3 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.65/gallon.
- Midland Odessa- $2.71/gallon, down 17.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.89/gallon.
- Oklahoma- $2.66/gallon, down 11.7 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.78 gallon.
“The national average price of gasoline has resumed its decline, with falling prices driven by easing tensions in the Middle East—just weeks after those same tensions had pushed prices higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “For motorists planning to hit the road for Independence Day, gas prices are expected to continue falling nearly coast to coast in the lead-up to July 4. Relief could expand as the holiday weekend approaches, with the national average on track to hit its lowest July 4 level since 2021 at $3.15 per gallon, we project. As long as tensions in the Middle East remain contained and the U.S. avoids a major hurricane, we could see the national average fall below $3 per gallon later this summer.”…
