Amarillo Texas Weather: Excessive Heat Warning 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. With Highs Near 110°F

Amarillo, Texas – Dangerous heat will blanket the Texas Panhandle Friday afternoon, with an Excessive Heat Warning in effect for Palo Duro Canyon from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Temperatures there could spike to 110°F, while much of the region will see highs between 100°F and 107°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the warning is in place due to dangerously hot conditions that can cause heat-related illness in minutes if precautions are not taken. The hottest period is expected during the mid- to late-afternoon hours, when heat indexes will peak and shade offers little relief.

Communities including Amarillo, Dalhart, Perryton, Borger, and Canadian are expected to see highs over 103°F, with little cooling until after sunset. Outdoor workers, hikers, and travelers in Palo Duro Canyon are urged to limit activity to early morning or evening hours and carry plenty of water…
