Amarillo College’s aviation program fueling students for success

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Amarillo College is highlighting its aviation program. AC’s aviation program is fueling local flight groups with graduates. The program is offering a direct route to a career for students who have the drive to excel in aviation repair and mechanics.

One of the regional aviation companies that AC is supplying with workforce-ready talent is Haven Aviation Services Group.

“We’ve got probably 50% or more of our staff who are AC alumni from there now, and it’s been an amazing collaboration,” Travis Lamance, founder and CEO of Haven ASG, said. “There’s a huge shortage of aircraft mechanics in the country right now. They’re retiring at a rate much faster than they can be replaced. So this collaboration has been really key for us to be able to keep up with our staffing. Having people who are from this area and want to be in this area for their family, their background, all those reasons, it works out nicely to be able to keep local people employed here in Amarillo. And it’s a win-win for them and the company.”
