Back-to-school mental health tips for a successful year

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — As the new school year approaches, mental health professionals emphasize the importance of preparing students not only physically but also mentally.

Tippi Watson, a mental health professional at MCHUR Care, emphasized the importance of a strong support system and open communication in helping children thrive.

“Communication with the school, with the teacher, with the paraprofessionals,” said Watson. “If your child works with a paraprofessional and having an open mind to try to work outside of the box for a lot of children who are dysregulated sometimes and not pulling them from a classroom and segregating them, not over medicating them, but looking at the real issues going on, every behavior serves a purpose.
