AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Atmos Energy once again celebrated National 811 Day on Aug. 11 and presented the Gold Cup of Safe Digging to Chavez Concrete.
According to Atmos Energy officials, the Gold Cup of Digging trophy recognizes damage prevention leaders with outstanding safety records.

“Third-party excavation damage is the greatest threat to natural gas distribution systems, accounting for more than 91 percent of all damage to Atmos Energy pipelines in Texas over the past 12 months,” said Michael Gonzales, Atmos Energy public affairs manager. “This is why we created The Gold Cup of Safe Digging to celebrate excavators who consistently and effectively protect underground utility lines. We greatly appreciate Chavez Concrete for their ongoing partnership in natural gas safety and congratulate their entire team on their continued excellence in preventing damage to underground pipelines.”
Officials noted that calling 811 is a part of damage prevention efforts to minimize harm to people, property, and the environment. Texas law requires homeowners, excavation companies, and contractors to call 811 two business days before digging, officials stated…
