Amarillo Mourns Closure of Iconic Burger Barn

The second part of 2025 has been full of closed restaurants in Amarillo. We’ve started losing a few chain restaurants and several locally owned ones. It’s not what we want to hear unless the owners have retired and are ready to move on. We hate to hear about anything closing.

Another Amarillo Favorite Shuts Down

Recently, we lost another one. This one affects those living near the River Road area—another locally owned place. If you are looking for a huge breakfast burrito or a killer burger, you will no longer be able to head over to Burger Barn to get your fix..

They have been a staple at Dumas Drive and Cherry Ave for what feels like forever, but about two weeks ago, they decided to hang up their aprons.

Why the Owners Closed Burger Barn

According to a social media post I discovered about this closing, it seems that “the big guys” made it difficult:

Bennie and Kim are great people and had one of the best burgers in town. Breakfast burritos were to die for. Unfortunately, with the chain fast-food places going in close to them, it didn’t make sense to keep it open. -Glenn

Locals React to the News

When I first saw people discussing the likelihood of Burger Barn being closed, I went to Google Maps, and it had it listed as “temporarily closed”. So I thought maybe this was just what it said, temporary. When I went back a few hours later, it had changed the “temporarily” to “permanently.”

It’s a shame because I had been hunting for a killer breakfast burrito. I have found a few really great places, but I always love to add to my list of go-tos. I feel that I missed out on never having tried Burger Barn. It’s a shame because I am in the area a lot delivering food…
