CANYON, Texas — The city of Canyon has introduced an interactive map aimed at improving local safety, inviting residents to pinpoint areas where they believe safety measures such as traffic lights, crosswalks, or bike lanes should be implemented. This initiative is part of the national “Safe Streets and Roads for All” effort.
Assistant City Manager Jon Behrens highlighted the importance of the project, noting that “approximately 20% of the roadway deaths occur on city streets across the state,” which translates to about 600 fatalities in Texas.
Residents can access the map via the city’s website, allowing them to zoom into specific areas and place markers with their suggestions. Users can also explain their choices and agree with others’ submissions.
