AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Alzheimer’s Association is working to end Alzheimer’s and all other forms of dementia by bringing awareness and continuing research on the disease.
The Alzheimer’s Association serves communities nationwide, and the West Texas Chapter serves Amarillo, along with Lubbock, Permian Basin, and surrounding communities. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are currently 459,300 people in Texas living with Alzheimer’s and over 1,016,000 family and friends providing care.
“The mission is to lead the way in research, it advocates for this community, and it really just drives the awareness. So that way, I mean, knowledge is power, and taking care of someone who has Alzheimer’s or some type of cognitive disorder can be very taxing on a caregiver,” added Alzheimer’s Association West Texas Chapter Brooke Harlan. “So it’s just important to have these resources that the Alzheimer’s Association provides, available to not only take care of the patient, but also take care of the caregivers.”
