The department noted the Title IX Office “is aware of the incidents,” and that local and university resources were made available to the victim.
Further, the department issued advisories for students and community members regarding consent and the prevention of sexual violence, including:
- Make sure you have consent. Consent is a clear and freely given “yes,” not the absence of a “no.”
- Unwanted touching, such as groping and fondling of body parts, is considered inappropriate touching.
- Community members should trust their instincts and call for assistance in situations where they feel uneasy or that something may be wrong.
- Bystanders play a critical role in preventing sexual violence. Community members are encouraged to intervene and speak up.
- On-campus resources are available for community members, including student counseling, medical, the Title IX Office and the university police.
- Local resources in the community also include Family Support Services of Amarillo.
