Man indicted for evading arrest, assault against peace officer

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – One man was indicted in Potter County for “Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant,” “Evading Arrest or Detention with Vehicle,” and “Unauthorized use of Vehicle.”

According to court documents, 27-year-old Aaron Walling was indicted on Aug. 28 with these charges relating to an incident in June 2025 with the Amarillo Police Department. According to previous reporting by MyHighPlains.com, officers were investigating a report of an alleged stolen vehicle on June 15 in the area of 34th and Western Street.

Previous reports state that officers found the allegedly stolen car driving northbound on Western at Chama, which was being driven by Walling. Walling allegedly then drove away from officers when they tried to stop the car and during the police chase that followed, Walling allegedly drove through a parking garage and allegedly “attempted to run over one officer who tried to stop him.”

The car then ignited after Walling allegedly crashed and abandoned the car in the 1500 block of South Kentucky. Officers said in the previous reporting that Walling allegedly ran into a home, according to the homeowner, went into an upstairs bedroom, where he tried to escape through a window, but was then arrested…
