AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Governor Greg Abbott recently announced over $146 billion in transportation investments across Texas, with several projects set to impact drivers in the Panhandle area.
The 10-year plan, known as the Unified Transportation Program, outlines funding for roadways to meet the demands of the growing population of the state.

“You can kind of see it as a roadmap of the projects that are being listed throughout the state, including right here in the Amarillo district, kind of what’s on what’s on the roadmap here in the Amarillo district across the state to, of course, improve safety, connectivity and just just an overall plan of what the next 10 years is looking like in $146 billion is a huge investment into the transportation plan here in the state of Texas,” said Jason Britsch, public information officer for TxDOT Amarillo District.
According to TxDOT, the Amarillo District is receiving $1.63 billion from the UTP. The funding will go towards the southwest portion of State Loop 335 and I-27. TxDOT is also planning a new project to upgrade U.S. Highway 87 from Dumas to Hartley. The project will expand the highway from two to four lanes…
