City of Amarillo discuss adopting 2025/26 budget and tax rate

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The City of Amarillo held its first reading of an ordinance adopting the proposed 2025/26 budget and tax rate.

At the council meeting, staff highlighted some of the focuses of the proposed budget including funding for new fire and police positions, as well as raises, over $30 million in street projects, a new dangerous structure removal team, and more.

“Our budget that is proposed for this next year is about $557 million in total. That’s everything from public safety, police, fire, parks, libraries, streets, water and sewer, drainage, airport, all of our grants, all of our PID’s, everybody— that’s one big solid number,” said Laura Storrs, chief financial officer for the City of Amarillo…
